Aust-Bred Misstrum Wins NZ Great Northern Foal Stakes

Monday, 28th May 2012

In New Zealand, Gr1 Golden Slipper-winning Widden Stud stallion & former Australian Champion 1st-Season Sire Stratum (Redoute's Choice-Bourgeois, by Luskin Star) added a juvenile black-type success (& 12th individual stakes-winner) when Australian-bred filly Misstrum (Stratum-Malagra Miss, by Barathea) scored by a neck against the males in the NZ$50,000 Listed Great Northern Foal Stakes (1400m) for 2YOs at Ellerslie in Auckland. Misstrum (ridden by Leith Innes for trainer Roger James) defeated favoured gelding About Square (Refuse To Bend-Lalika, by Danehill) & fellow filly Twilight Granita (Iffraaj-Granita, by Bigstone). Misstrum (passed-in for NZ$92,500 on a NZ$100,000 reserve when consigned by Haunui Farm at the 2011 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale at Karaka) took her record to 1 win & 1 placing from 3 starts for NZ$32,500 earnings.
