Deep Brillante Wins Gr1 Japanese Derby

In Japan yesterday, the colt Deep Brillante (Deep Impact-Love And Bubbles, by Loup Sauvage) scored by a nose in the ¥313m (A$3.981m) Gr1 Tokyo Yushun-Japanese Derby (2400m) for 3YOs at Tokyo. Deep Brillante (ridden by Yasunari Iwata for trainer Yoshito Yahagi) defeated fellow colts Fenomeno (Stay Gold-De Laroche, by Danehill) & Tosen Homareboshi (Deep Impact-Every Whisper, by Northern Taste) who was ridden by Australian jockey Craig Williams. Deep Brillante took his record to 3 wins (also including 2011's Gr3 Tokyo Sports Hai Nisai Stakes over 1800m at Tokyo) & 3 placings (in April's Gr1 Satsuki Sho-2000 Guineas over 2000m at Nakayama, March's Gr2 Sho Spring Stakes over 1800m at Nakayama & February's Gr3 Kyodo News Service Hai over 1800m at Tokyo) from 6 starts for ¥298.056 million (A$3.791m) earnings.
