Monday, 28th May 2012

Also in France overnight, European champion 4-time Gr1-winning former Darley shuttler Shamardal  (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) added a Gr1 triumph (& 7th individual Gr1-winner world-wide) when The Aga Khan's UK-bred daughter Sagawara (Shamardal-Sagalina, by Linamix) gained the decision in a 3-way photo-finish to the €250,000 (A$320,000) Gr1 Prix Saint-Alary (2000m) for 3YO fillies at Longchamp. Favourite Sagawara (ridden by Christophe-Patrice Lemaire for trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre) scored by a short-neck from Irish-bred Rjwa (Muhtathir-Minallon, by Flag Down) with a further short-neck to Forces Of Darkness (Lawman-Miss Childrey, by Dr Fong). Sagawara took her record to 2 wins & 2 placings (including April's Gr3 Prix Vanteaux over 1850m at Longchamp) from 4 starts for €180,150 (A$231,000) earnings.
