Samitar Wins Irish Gr1 1000 Guineas

European Horse-Of-The-Year & 7-time Gr1-winning former Coolmore shuttler Rock Of Gibraltar (Danehill-Offshore Boom, by Be My Guest) added an Irish Gr1 triumph overnight when UK-bred daughter Samitar (Rock Of Gibraltar-Aileen's Gift, by Rainbow Quest) scored a 1.5-lengths victory in the €300,000 (A$384,000) Gr1 Irish 1000 Guineas (8 furlongs) for 3YO fillies at The Curragh. Samitar (ridden by Martin Harley for trainer Mick Channon) defeated Ishvana (Holy Roman Emperor-Song Of The Sea, by Bering) & Princess Sinead (Jeremy-Princess Atoosa, by Gone West). Samitar was a 39,000 guineas (A$64,000) yearling at the 2010 UK Tattersalls October Sale. Overall Samitar now has 3 wins (also including 2011's Gr3 Albany Stakes over 6 furlongs at Royal Ascot & Tattersalls Millions 2YO Fillies' Trophy over 7 furlongs at Newmarket) & 4 placings (including 2011's Gr1 Fillies Mile over 8 furlongs at Ascot & Gr2 May Hill Stakes over 8 furlongs at Doncaster) from 9 starts for €504,722 (A$646,000) earnings.
