Aust-Bred Gr1 Star Gimmethegreenlight To South African Stud

Wednesday, 30th May 2012

In South Africa, Gr1-winning Australian-bred 3YO colt Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready-Yes She Can Cancan, by Canny Lad) "has been retired to stud after suffering a ligament injury" reported racingpost.com. Gimmethegreenlight will stand at Varfontein Stud (north-east of Cape Town at Paarl) beside leading US-bred sire Caesour. Prominent trainer Justin Snaith declared Gimmethegreenlight (currently South Africa's top-rated 3YO colt on 117) the "best horse he's ever trained" & noted: "I will be sending my own mares to him. The injury isn't serious, but it ruled out the Gr1 Durban July." Gimmethegreenlight (a $155,000 weanling consigned by Vinery at the 2009 Magic Millions National Sale) won January's Gr1 Queens Plate (1600m) at Kenilworth & then finished 3rd (behind champion Australian-bred mare Igugu) in January's Gr1 J&B Met (2000m) at Kenilworth. And in 2011, Gimmethegreenlight also won the Listed Betting World Summerset (1200m) at Kenilworth & placed in each of 2011's Gr1 Premier's Champion Stakes (1600m) at Greyville, Gr2 Selangor Cup (1600m) at Kenilworth & Gr3 Cape Classic (1400m) at Kenilworth.
