Magic Millions Select Mares Day-2: $1m Hurtle Myrtle
Former trainer turned bloodstock agent Bill Mitchell (acting for Segenhoe Stud) paid top price of $1 million for Gr1-winning & Gr1-placed 5YO mare Hurtle Myrtle (Dane Shadow-Ravenswood, by Woodman) during the 2nd session at the 2-day Magic Millions National Select Broodmare Sale on the Queensland Gold Coast. Hurtle Myrtle (consigned by Kitchwin Hills as agent) boasts 4 wins (including 2011's Gr1 Myer Classic over 1600m at Flemington, Gr2 Patinack Farm Dane Ripper Stakes over 1400m at Eagle Farm & Gr2 Sapphire Stakes over 1200m at Randwick) & 6 placings (including 2011's Gr2 Premiere Stakes over 1200m at Randwick, plus 2010's Gr2 Surround Stakes over 1400m at Warwick Farm & 2009's Gr1 Arrowfield Stud Flight Stakes over 1600m at Randwick, Gr2 Furious Stakes over 1400m at Randwick, Gr3 Silver Shadow Stakes over 1200m at Randwick & Inglis Classic over 1200m at Randwick) from 22 starts for $773,700 earnings. Mitchell declared: "She's an outstanding looking mare who has loads of ability & we purchased her as a racing & breeding prospect. We'll see what she tells us as to whether she races on. We'd be happy to race her for another season like we've done with Sister Madly (who topped last year's sale at $1 million). We picked out about 4 or so high class mares & decided she was the one we'd try to buy & we're delighted to have been able to get her."
