Thursday, 31st May 2012

The deadly Hendra virus has returned in Queensland "where 2 horses have died & 4 people have potentially been exposed to the disease" reported abc.net.au. Authorities "have quarantined 2 properties (800km apart at Rockhampton & Ingham) & are assessing the people & animals which had been in contact with the sick horses. It's the 1st time simultaneous cases have been reported in different places & experts don't know whether it's a coincidence." Queensland's chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young confirmed: "At this stage we're aware of 4 people who've been involved; 2 at each property, the property owner & the vet." And Queensland's chief veterinary officer Rick Symons said "other animals will be monitored for the virus".
