Top HK Sprinter Green Birdie Joins Vasil Melb Stable

Singapore Gr1-winning & Hong Kong Gr2-winning 8YO gelding Green Birdie (Catbird-Mrs Squillionaire, by Last Tycoon) has joined the Melbourne stables of trainer Tony Vasil. Green Birdie (owned by HK-based Magus Equine) was a NZ$230,000 yearling at the 2005 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka & was originally trained in Victoria by Brian Jenkins (finishing runner-up in Australia's 2006 Gr2 Schillaci Stakes over 1000m at Caulfield & 4th in the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes) before moving to the Hong Kong stable of Caspar Fownes. Green Birdie subsequently won HK's 2008 Gr2 HK Derby Trial (1800m) at Sha Tin & Gr3 Premier Bowl (1200m) at Sha Tin plus Singapore's 2010 Gr1 KrisFlyer International Sprint (1200m) at Kranji, as well as placing in each of HK's 2007 Gr3 Sha Tin Vase (1200m), 2008 Gr1 International Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin, 2008 Gr1 Mercedes-Benz Derby (2000m) at Sha Tin, 2008 Gr2 International Sprint Trial (1200m) at Sha Tin, 2010 Gr2 Sprint Cup (1200m) at Sha Tin & Japan's 2010 Gr2 Centaur Stakes (1200m) at Hanshin. Vasil's stable manager Sam Doran confirmed Green Birdie arrived at Caulfield from New Zealand last month "to be prepared for the early season weight-for-age sprints".
