Racing Vic Targets Star UK Stayers For Cups

Tuesday, 5th June 2012

Meanwhile "emerging English stayer Aiken, who defeated Gr1 Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden in Sunday's French Gr2 Grand Prix De Chantilly (2400m), is on Racing Victoria's wish list for the Melbourne Spring carnival" reported The Herald-Sun. George Strawbridge's UK-bred 4YO entire Aiken (Selkirk-Las Flores, by Sadler's Wells) took his record to 6 wins from 7 starts (Dunaden finished 3rd) & "RV international scout Leigh Jordon said he would speak with trainer John Gosden when he travels to Europe next month" noting: "He's an impressive horse, one we would definitely love to have out here." Jordon also confirmed last year's Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux "who stormed home for 2nd" in the weekend's UK Gr1 Coronation Cup (12 furlongs) at Epsom Downs "could run in both the Caulfield & Melbourne Cups this year". Jordon said: "I've spoken to (trainer) Ed Dunlop repeatedly & he's committed to the carnival & he's keen to bring the horse out earlier this year, so the Caulfield Cup is certainly on his radar."
