1st Winner For South Africa Freshman Mullins Bay

Wednesday, 6th June 2012

In South Africa, UK Gr3-winning 11-year-old freshman stallion Mullins Bay (Machiavellian-Bella Colora, by Bellypha) recorded his 1st winner when 2YO colt Croke Park (Mullins Bay-Streisand, by Gallic League) scored on debut over 1600m at Turffontein for trainer Tyrone Zackey. Croke Park was a R20,000 (A$2,500) yearling at last year's KwaZulu-Natal Sale. His sire Mullins Bay was a 525,000 guineas (A$866,000) purchase by Coolmore representative Demi O'Byrne at the 2002 UK Tattersalls October Yearling Sale & subsequently recorded 3 wins (including the UK Gr3 Strensall Stakes over 9 furlongs at York & UK John Smith's Cup Handicap) & 8 placings (including the Italian Gr2 Premio Ribot over 1600m at Capannelle, UAE Gr2 Godolphin Mile over 1600m at Nad Al Sheba, UAE Gr3 Al Maktoum Challenge-Round 2 over 1800m at Nad Al Sheba, UK Gr3 Select Stakes over 10 furlongs at Goodwood, UK Gr3 Darley Stakes over 9 furlongs at Newmarket & UK Listed Wolferton Stakes over 10 furlongs at York) from 15 starts for £263,098 (A$421,000) earnings. Coolmore sold Mullins Bay to a partnership including Summerhill Stud (in the KwaZulu-Natal region of South Africa) where the stallion now stands. Mullins Bay (whose dam Bella Colora won France's Gr1 Prix de l'Opera) is a half-brother to UK Gr1 Prince Of Wales's Stakes winner Stagecraft.
