I'll Have Another Bids For 12th US Triple Crown
In the US, J. Paul Reddam's 3YO colt I'll Have Another (Flower Alley-Arch's Gal Edith, by Arch) bids to become the 12th Triple Crown Champion in history by winning tomorrow's US$1 million Gr1 Belmont Stakes (12 furlongs) at Belmont Park in New York. I'll Have Another (to be ridden by Mario Gutierrez for trainer Doug O'Neill) has drawn barrier 11 in the 12-horse field for the 144th running of the Belmont Stakes. During May he won both the Gr1 Kentucky Derby (10 furlongs) at Churchill Downs & Gr1 Preakness Stakes (9.5 furlongs) at Pimlico. Overall I'll Have Another (originally a US$11,000 yearling at the 2010 Keeneland September Sale & subsequently a US$35,000 2YO at the 2011 Ocala Breeders April Sale) currently boasts 5 wins (also including April's Gr1 Santa Anita Derby over 9 furlongs at Santa Anita & February's Gr2 Robert Lewis Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Santa Anita) & a runner-up (in 2011's Gr2 Best Pal Stakes over 6.5 furlongs at Del Mar) from 7 starts for US$2,693,600 earnings. The last horse to win the US 3YO Triple Crown was Affirmed in 1978.
