Tuesday, 12th June 2012

In Ireland, European champion 4-time Gr1-winning former shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) added a black-type success when The Aga Khan's home-bred 4YO entire Sharestan (Shamardal-Sharesha, by Ashkalani) scored a half-length victory in the €42,000 (A$54,000) Listed Silver Stakes (10 furlongs) at The Curragh. Sharestan (ridden by Niall McCullagh for trainer John Oxx) defeated 4YO gelding Defining Year (Hawk Wing-Tajaathub, by Aljabr) & UK-bred 7YO gelding Sweet Lightning (Fantastic Light-Sweetness Herself, by Unfuwain). Sharestan took his record to 3 wins & 3 placings (including May's Gr3 Mooresbridge Stakes over 10 furlongs at The Curragh & April's Listed Heritage Stakes over 8 furlongs at Leopardstown) from 6 starts for €88,375 (A$127,000) earnings.
