Monday, 18th June 2012

In Malaysia, Coolmore's multiple Gr1-winning Australian-bred stallion & former Australian Champion 2nd-Season Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill-Piccadilly Circus, by Royal Academy) added a Gr1 triumph when Australian-bred gelding Speed Baby (Fastnet Rock-Twisted Heart, by Distorted Humor) won the RM$1 million (A$330,000) Gr1 Piala Emas Sultan (2000m) at Selangor. Speed Baby (ridden by Australian jockey Noel Callow for Australian trainer Steven Burridge) defeated New Zealand-bred 6YO gelding Mr Ambassador (Danasinga-Scotch And Water, by Lake Coniston) & New Zealand-bred 7YO gelding Good Feel (Hunza Court-Gleaming Day, by Gleam Machine). Speed Baby (a $280,000 yearling at the 2008 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) took his record to 8 wins (also including 2011's Singapore Gr1 Patron's Bowl over 1600m at Kranji & 2010's Malaysian Gr1 Coronation Cup over 1600m at Perak) & 5 placings (including 2011's Gr1 Singapore Raffles Cup over 1800m at Kranji & Gr3 Jumbo Jet Trophy over 1400m at Kranji) from 22 starts.
