Ron The Greek Wins US Gr1 Stephen Foster Handicap

In the US, Jack Hammer's Florida home-bred 5YO entire Ron The Greek (Full Mandate-Flambe', by Fortunate Prospect) charged through along the rails to snatch victory by a head in the US$430,000 Gr1 Stephen Foster Handicap (9 furlongs) under lights at Churchill Downs in Kentucky. Ron The Greek (ridden by Jose Lezcano for trainer Bill Mott) defeated favoured 5YO gelding Wise Dan (Wiseman's Ferry-Lisa Danielle, by Wolf Power) & front-running fellow 5YO entire Nates Mineshaft (Mineshaft-Angel's Tearlet, by Silver Deputy). Ron The Greek took his record to 7 wins (also including March's Gr1 Santa Anita Handicap over 10 furlongs at Santa Anita Park, plus 2011's Listed Queen's County Handicap over 9.5 furlongs at Aqueduct & Listed Sunny And Mild Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Aqueduct, as well as 2010's Gr3 Lecomte Stakes over 8 furlongs at Fair Grounds) & 5 placings (including April's Gr2 Oaklawn Park Handicap over 9 furlongs at Oaklawn Park & January's Listed Sunshine Millions Classic Stakes over 9 furlongs at Gulfstream Park, plus 2011's Listed Three Coins Up Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Aqueduct) from 19 starts for US$1,112,597 earnings.
