Monday, 18th June 2012

In Hong Kong, Australian Gr1-winning former Cambridge Stud dual-hemisphere home-bred sire & now Victorian-based Mornmoot Stud stallion Viking Ruler (Danehill-Tristalove, by Sir Tristram) added a group success when 6YO gelding Aashiq (Viking Ruler-Join The Fun, by Rory's Jester) scored a 1.25-lengths victory in the HK$2.4 million (A$300,000) Gr3 The Prince Jewellery & Watch Premier Cup (1400m) at Sha Tin. Aashiq (ridden by Mark Du Plessis for trainer Paul O'Sullivan) defeated 4YO entire Sweet Orange (War Front-Good Vibes, by Unbridled's Song) & Australian-bred 5YO gelding Flying Blue (Piccolo-Bright Blue, by Scenic). Aashiq took his record to 6 wins (also including January's Gr3 Chinese Club Challenge Cup over 1400m) & 7 placings (including 2010's Gr3 National Day Cup over 1400m, Gr3 Premier Cup over 1400m & Gr3 HK-Macau Trophy over 1400m) from 25 starts.
