Tuesday, 19th June 2012

In Japan, Australian jockey Craig Williams continued his winning run by piloting 4YO mare Gullveig (Deep Impact-Air Groove, by Tony Bin) to a 2-lengths victory in the ¥67.32 million (A$856,000) Gr3 Mermaid Stakes (2000m) for fillies & mares at Hanshin. Gullveig (trained by Katsuhiko Sumii) defeated 5YO mares Christmas Carol (Agnes Tachyon-Christmas Tree, by Tony Bin) & Merveille D'Or (Fuji Kiseki-Golden Sash, by Dictus). Gullveig (giving Williams a Japanese Gr3 winner for the 2nd successive weekend) took her record to 5 wins & 3 placings from 11 starts (& became the 24th individual stakes-winner for her sire Deep Impact).
