Frankel Wins UK Gr1 Queen Anne By 11-Lengths
In the UK overnight, former Coolmore shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a Gr1 triumph when Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farm home-bred unbeaten 4YO entire Frankel (Galileo-Kind, by Danehill) who is currently the world's highest-rated horse, continued his rise to super-stardom by blitzing his rivals by an amazing 11-lengths in the £350,000 (A$560,000) Gr1 Queen Anne Stakes (8 furlongs) for 4YOs & up at Royal Ascot (see VIDEO CORNER at bottom right). Hot favourite Frankel (ridden by Tom Queally for trainer Sir Henry Cecil) defeated Irish-bred fellow 4YO entire Excelebration (Exceed And Excel-Sun Shower, by Indian Ridge) & 5YO gelding Side Glance (Passing Glance-Averami, by Averti). Frankel notched his 6th successive Gr1 victory (& 7th overall) to take his record to 11 wins (also including May's UK Gr1 Lockinge Stakes over 8 furlongs at Newbury, plus 2011's Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes over 8 furlongs at Ascot, Gr1 Sussex Stakes over 8 furlongs at Goodwood, Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes over 8 furlongs at Royal Ascot, Gr1 English 2000 Guineas over 8 furlongs at Newmarket & Gr3 Greenham Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newbury, plus 2010's Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newmarket & Gr2 Royal Lodge Stakes over 8 furlongs at Ascot) from 11 starts for £1,670,436 (A$2.673m) earnings. Among the beaten brigade, former Australian triple Gr1-winning 3YO colt Helmet (Exceed And Excel-Accessories, by Singspiel) raced close to the lead, but weakened over the final 2 furlongs to finish 7th in the field of 11 runners.
