Vic Bookies To Take Off-Course Bets
Victorian bookmakers "will be able to take off-course bets, making them more competitive with those interstate" reported The Herald-Sun. Victorian Racing Minister Denis Napthine confirmed amendments to the Racing Legislation Amendment Bill (to be tabled this week) "would enable bookmakers to take bets at approved off-course locations, as interstate bookies can"; currently Victorian bookmakers "must be at a racetrack to accept a bet". Victorian Bookmakers Association chairman Lyndon Hsu said the amendments would "make a big difference as our members won't have to drive hundreds of miles to a course to take bets".
