Cape Cross Adds UK Gr2

Thursday, 21st June 2012

Former shuttler Cape Cross (Green Desert-Park Appeal, by Ahonoora) added a UK group success overnight when Princess Haya of Jordan's 4YO mare Joviality (Cape Cross-Night Frolic, by Night Shift) scored by a neck in the £100,000 (A$160,000) Gr2 Windsor Forest Stakes (8 furlongs) for mares 4YO & up at Royal Ascot. Joviality (ridden by William Buick for trainer John Gosden) defeated Irish-bred 5YO mare Chachamaidee (Footstepsinthesand-Canterbury Lace, by Danehill) & fellow 4YO mare Lay Time (Galileo-Time Saved, by Green Desert).  Joviality was a 200,000 guineas (A$330,000) yearling at the 2009 UK Tattersalls October Sale. Overall she now has 2 wins (also including 2011's UK Gr3 Musidora Stakes over 10.5 furlongs at York) & 3 placings (including last start's UK Gr3 Princess Elizabeth Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Epsom on June 1) from 8 starts for £120,158 (A$192,000) earnings.
