Irish Gr1-Winning Colt Power Heading To Coolmore Stud

Thursday, 21st June 2012

Last month's Gr1 Irish 2000 Guineas-winning 3YO colt Power (Oasis Dream-Frappe, by Inchinor) "is more than likely to retire to Coolmore Stud at the end of the season, a spokesman for the stud has confirmed" reported racingpost.com. Retirement to Coolmore "would see Power become the 1st son of Oasis Dream to stand at the operation". This week UK-bred Power (trained by Aidan O'Brien) finished a disappointing 12th (as favourite) of 16 runners behind Most Improved in Tuesday's Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes (8 furlongs) for 3YO colts at Royal Ascot. Overall Power boasts 5 wins (including May's Gr1 Irish 2000 Guineas over 8 furlongs at The Curragh, plus 2011's Irish Gr1 National Stakes over 7 furlongs at the Curragh, UK Gr2 Coventry Stakes over 6 furlongs at Royal Ascot & Irish Listed Marble Hill Stakes over 5 furlongs at the Curragh) & 2 runners-up (in 2011's UK Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newmarket & Irish Gr1 Phoenix Stakes over 6 furlongs at the Curragh) from 9 starts for £429,539 (A$687,000) earnings.
