Orfevre Wins Japan Gr1 Takarazuka Kinen

In Japan yesterday, 2011's 3YO Triple Crown-winning colt & Japanese Horse-Of-The-Year Orfevre (Stay Gold-Oriental Art, by Mejiro Mc Queen) scored a 2-lengths victory in the ¥274.96 million (A$3.498m) Gr1 Takarazuka Kinen (2200m) at Hanshin. Favoured now 4YO entire Orfevre (ridden by Kenichi Ikezoe for trainer Yasutoshi Ikee) defeated 5YO entire Rulership (King Kamehameha-Air Groove, by Tony Bin) ridden by Australian jockey Craig Williams & fellow 4YO entire Shonan Mighty (Manhattan Cafe-Luxury, by Storm Cat). Orfevre (the 7th Triple Crown winner in JRA history) took his record to 8 wins (also including 2011's Gr1 Arima Kinen over 2500m at Nakayama, Gr1 Kikuka Sho-Japanese St Leger over 3000m at Kyoto, Gr1 Tokyo Yushun-Japanese Derby over 2400m at Tokyo, Gr1 Satsuki Sho-2000 Guineas over 2000m at Tokyo, Gr2 Kobe Shimbun Hai over 2400m at Hanshin & Gr2 Sho Spring Stakes over 1800m at Hanshin) & 4 placings (including March's Gr2 Hanshin Daishoten over 3000m at Hanshin, plus 2011's Gr3 Kisaragi Sho over 1800m at Kyoto & Gr3 Sho Shinzan Kinen over 1600m at Kyoto) from 14 starts for ¥978,682,000 (A$12.449m) earnings.
