US Horse-Of-Year Curlin's Initial 2 Winners Both In Russia

In Russia, dual 2007-2008 US Horse-Of-The-Year Curlin (Smart Strike-Sherriff's Deputy, by Deputy Minister) recorded his initial 2 winners as a sire when Lucky First & Zimniy Dvorets won at two different racecourses, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Kentucky-bred 2YO colt Lucky First (Curlin-Dragon Fly, by Sadler's Wells) scored on debut at Rostov-on-Don Hippodrome; Lucky First was a US$19,000 yearling at the 2011 Keeneland September Sale. Fellow Kentucky-bred 2YO colt Zimniy Dvorets (Curlin-Stolen Prayer, by Songandaprayer) won the Gr2 Summer Prize Stakes at the Central Moscow Hippodrome; Zimniy Dvorets was a US$25,000 yearling at the 2011 Keeneland September Sale. Their sire Curlin (who stands at Lane's End Farm in Kentucky for US$40,000) won 7 Gr1 races (Preakness Stakes, Breeders' Cup Classic, Dubai World Cup, back-to-back runnings of the Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes, Woodward Stakes & Stephen Foster Handicap) & retired at the end of his 4YO campaign with career earnings totalling US$10,501,800, a North American record.
