Wednesday, 27th June 2012

In Peru, 3YO filly Azucena (Battle Hero-Fire Legend, by Engrillado) scored a 1-length victory against older rivals in the Gr1 Clasico Pamplona (2000m on turf) for fillies & mares at Hipodromo de Monterrico in Lima. Azucena (ridden by Martin Chuan for trainer Juan Suarez) defeated US-bred 3YO filly Tontona (Powerscourt-Upgraded, by High Yield) & 4YO mare Scherezada (Privately Held-Mari Cat, by Just A Cat). Azucena took her record to 4 wins (also including 2011's Gr2 Clasico Oscar Berckemeyer Pazos over 2000m at Monterrico, plus 2010's Gr1 Clasico Enrique Ayulo Pardo over 200m at Monterrico) & 4 placings (including March's Listed Clasico Felipe Pardo Y Barreda over 2000m at Monterrico) from 11 starts.
