Desert Sun Dies At Eliza Park Aged 23
UK-bred stallion Desert Sun (Green Desert-Solar, by Hotfoot) died at Eliza Park Nagambie in Victoria yesterday aged 23. Desert Sun (who began his career in New Zealand in 1994 & moved to Eliza Park in 1999) is the sire of 13-time Gr1-winning racemare Sunline (Desert Sun-Songline, by Western Symphony) & dam-sire of 12-time Gr1-winning unbeaten 5YO mare Black Caviar (Bel Esprit-Helsinge, by Desert Sun). Sunline (3-time Australian Horse-Of-The-Year & 4-time NZ Horse-Of-The-Year) recorded recorded 32 wins (including 13 Gr1 triumphs & 11 Gr2 victories) & 12 placings (including 7 Gr1-placings & 3 Gr2-placings) from 48 starts for $11,351,607 earnings. Australian 2011 Horse-Of-The-Year/Champion Sprinter Black Caviar (who was named World Champion Sprinter for the 2nd successive year in the 2011 World Thoroughbred Rankings) won last weekend's UK Gr1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes (6 furlongs) at Royal Ascot & overall currently boasts 22 successive wins (including12 Gr1 triumphs & & Gr2 victories) for $7.222 million earnings.
