English Channel Colt Breaks Woodbine Track Record

In Canada, a colt from the 1st-crop of Kentucky's Lane's End Farm-based US 2007 Champion Turf Male & 6-time Gr1-winning (plus 5-time Gr1-placed) 10-year-old 2nd-crop stallion English Channel (Smart Strike-Belva, by Theatrical) broke the track record when US-bred Strait Of Dover (English Channel-Bahrain Star, by Danzig) lead all-the-way to notch his 4th successive win & score a 1.25-lengths victory in the C$1 million Listed Queen's Plate (10 furlongs on all-weather) for 3YOs at Woodbine in Toronto (the 1st leg of the 2012 Canadian Triple Crown). Strait Of Dover (ridden by Justin Stein for trainer Daniel Vella) clocked 2min 1.99sec (previous record 2min 2.18sec) in defeating the fillies Irish Mission (Giant's Causeway-Misty Mission, by Miswaki) & Dixie Strike (Dixie Union-Noble Strike, by Smart Strike). Canyon Farms home-bred Strait Of Dover took his record to 4 wins (also including May's Listed Marine Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Woodbine) & a placing from 7 starts for US$749,628 earnings.
