SAf Breeders Clamour For Aust-Bred Stallion's Shares
In South Africa, Gr1-winning Australian-bred 4YO entire Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready-Yes She Can Cancan, by Canny Lad) "attracted a big crowd when he was launched to the Cape breeding community at Varsfontein Stud" reported goldcircle.co.za. Winner of the time-honoured Gr1 L'Ormarins Queen's Plate at Kenilworth in Cape Town, the son of Vinery Stud shuttler More Than Ready already "has 110 confirmed bookings for his debut season". Gimmethegreenlight (a $155,000 weanling consigned by Vinery Stud at the 2009 Magic Millions National Sale) was also 3rd in the Gr1 J&B Met (2000m) behind fellow Australian-bred mare Igugu at Kenilworth, and led his prominent trainer Justin to proclaim the freshman sire (South Africa's top-rated 3YO colt of last season on 117) the "best horse he's ever trained". A regular visitor to Australia, Hassen Adams, who bought Gimmethegreenlight and raced him, said: "I wanted to keep 50% [of his shares] but in no time there was a waiting list a mile long, including all the big names in the industry, and I felt compelled to drop my holding down to 30%." Varsfontein's owner Susan Rowett revealed: "We loved this horse and we dearly wanted to stand him. We bought ten shares and we were going to buy more but, with so many breeders also wanting him, we had to scale down." Gimmethegreenlight, who retired with 6 wins & 4 placings from 13 starts, will stand for R5,000 nomination plus R15,000 live foal for a total fee of R20,000 (A$2,300).
