Aust-Owned Salomina Wins German Gr1 Oaks

Monday, 6th August 2012

Overnight in Germany, Australian-owned filly Salomina (Lomitas-Saldentigerin, by Tiger Hill) raced away for a 3.5-lengths victory for trainer Peter Schiergen over fellow fillies Nymphea (Dylan Thomas-Neele, by Peintre Celebre) & Waldtraut (Oasis Dream-Waldbeere, by Mark Of Esteem) in the €400,000 Gr1 Preis der Diana (2200m) for 3YO fillies. Undefeated Salomina was recently purchased by Australian Bloodstock whose other German imports include Mawingo (Gr1 Doomben Cup winner) & Lucas Cranach (Gr1 Melbourne Cup 2nd). According to racingpost.co.uk, Salomina may remain in Europe for a crack at the Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, a race Schiergen won last year with Danedream, another German-bred 3YO filly.
