SAf Gr1 Star Tipped For Blue Gum Farm In 2013
Victoria's Blue Gum Farm is being tipped as a possibility to stand Australian-bred dual Gr1 South African winner Delago Deluxe (Encosta De Lago-Succeeding, by Flying Spur) from 2013, reports goldcircle.co.za. Owned by leviathan South African owner Markus Jooste and trained by Charles Laird, Delago Deluxe (a $550,000 yearling consigned from Gerry Harvey's Baramul Stud at the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale) won both the Gr1 Tso Sun Medallion (1200m) at Scottsville in in Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal as a 2YO, as well as the Gr1 Golden Horse Sprint (1200m) at the same venue last season. In 2011 Delago Deluxe won the Equus Award as South Africa's Champion 2YO. According to the report, "Derek Brugman, the racing manager to owner Markus Jooste, said Delago Deluxe was still currently with trainer Charles Laird at Clairwood but a deal was being negotiated that could potentially see him leaving South Africa in September. With the current export protocols he would in that case only arrive in Australia in February. The breeding season in Australia, like ours, only starts around August [September], so they would consider what shape he would be in upon arrival before deciding whether to find a race or two for him."
