Vinery's Big Brown Sires 1st Stakes-Winner
Hot on the heels of his 4th 1st crop winner, Vinery's US 2008 Gr1 Kentucky Derby victor & 4-time Gr1-winning shuttler Big Brown (Boundary-Mien, by Nureyev) sired his 1st stakes-winner when undefeated colt Brown Almighty (Big Brown-Gone Goodbye, by Gone For Real) scored a 2.75-lengths victory for trainer Tim Ice over fellow colt Mr. Bandini's Band (Bandini-Girls Girls Girls, by Colonial Affair) & the gelding Unbridled's Score (Even The Score-Belle de Soleil, by Darn That Alarm) in the US$50,000 Listed Sunny Halo Stakes (1500m) for 2YOs at Louisiana. Originally a US$50,000 weanling at the 2010 Keeneland November Sale, Brown Almighty won on debut over 8 furlongs on turf at Arlington Park in Chicago 3 weeks ago. "Big Brown was a world class 3YO. He did win his only start at 2 by almost 12-lens on turf so it's no real surprise that he is throwing talented early runners,'' noted Vinery's Conor Phelan. "Unfortunately we won't see Big Brown until next season [due to a minor injury] but Australian breeders selling his first Southern Hemisphere crop at the 2013 yearling sales must be very excited about what the horse is doing early on - these are very encouraging signs.''
