Lucas Cranach To Miss The Spring

Thursday, 9th August 2012

Trainer Anthony Freedman revealed that current $15 Melbourne Cup favourite Lucas Cranach (Mamool-Lots Of Love, by Java Gold), who finished 3rd in last year's race, will be forced to bypass the Spring Carnival "due to an operation to remove a bone chip" reported dailytelegraph.com.au. December's lucrative Hong Kong International race day is now the prospective target for the talented 6YO galloper who finished 3rd in last year's Gr1 Melbourne Cup. Freedman told the age.com.au: ''It is very frustrating and hugely disappointing for the stable and the owners because the horse is immensely talented. It is a very minor chip but he is far too valuable to risk and so we made the decision to treat the injury as soon as possible rather than tackle the spring." Freedman said that he "wouldn't be rushing Lucas Cranach" to get to Hong Kong "for the sake of it".
