$145,000 O'Reilly Colt Tops NZ Bloodstock South Island Sale
At New Zealand Bloodstock's South Island Sale of Two-Year-Olds & Mixed Bloodstock, a 2YO colt by O'Reilly fetched top price of NZ$145,000. A brother to triple stakes-winning filly and 2006 New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year Ombre Rose (O'Reilly) & half-brother to 10-time Australian winner Crabs (Danasinga), Lot 68 was offered by Roydon Lodge. The colt was purchased by Hong Kong's N.C.Chan, whose purchases also included the 2nd highest priced lot, a NZ$85,000 Falkirk gelding. Held at Canterbury Agricultural Park in Christchurch, the sale had a strong international buyer presence with five of the top 11 lots purchased by offshore buyers. In all, 107 horses sold for NZ$1,171,050 at an average of NZ$11,108 and a clearance rate of 72%. Leading vendor by aggregate for the eighth year was Edwina Morris and Alan Jones' Berkley Stud which sold 14 horses for total takings of NZ$193,500. Janine Dunlop's North Island-based Phoenix Park finished the Sale as the leading vendor by average with 5 horses sold for an average of NZ$20,850 including a High Chaparral colt, Lot 130, purchased by Te Akau Racing principal David Ellis of for NZ$80,000.
