Frankel-Camelot Battle On The Ascot Cards

Monday, 13th August 2012

In what looms as a mouthwatering clash for racing's purists, unbeaten champion Frankel (Galileo-Kind, by Danehill) is in line to "face the toughest test of his career on his final racecourse start with triple Classic-winning colt Camelot" (Montjeu-Tarfah, by Kingmambo) in Ascot's October 20 Gr1 Qipco Champion Stakes, reports racingpost.com. Frankel, rated "the world's best racehorse", and dual Derby, 4-time Gr1 winner Camelot, are "among 46 entries made for the £1.3 million event". Frankel will again bid to be the headline act on British Champions Day following his 4-length swin in last season's Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. Ballydoyle trainer Aidan O'Brien has 12 entries in addition to Camelot, including 4-time Gr1 winner St Nicholas Abbey (Montjeu-Leaping Water, by Sure Blade), Gr1 Longchamp Grand Prix de Paris winner Imperial Monarch (Galileo-Ionian Sea, by Slip Anchor) & Gr1 Irish 2000 Guineas winner Power (Oasis Dream-Frappe, by Inchinor).
