US Foal Crop Expected To Hold Firm
The US Jockey Club's executive director Matt Iuliano predicts that the 2013 US foal crop "will remain steady" on 24,700 foals, reports bloodhorse.com. The projection for 2012 is around 27,000 and 2011 was 25,500. These are the smallest foal crops in the USA since 1971 (when 24,301 foals were registered). The estimate is produced using the foal crop numbers as at August 1 each year, however late registrations alter the final figures slightly over time. The US foal crop has fallen each year since 2007, when 38,000 foals were registered, and the Jockey Club expressed some optimism that the fall appears to have halted.
