Typhoon Tracy Dies While Foaling

Tuesday, 14th August 2012

In a devastating blow for connections, Vinery Stud confirmed that 2010 Australian Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy (Red Ransom-Tracy's Element, by Last Tycoon) "passed away whilst foaling". Vinery's Peter Orton commented: "The family has been with us for a long time and this is an extremely sad morning. 'Tracy passed away quietly following a straight forward foaling from a suspected ruptured broad ligament. Typhoon Tracy's dam Tracy's Element, now 22 years of age, was born and reared here and the family has been an integral part of the farm for years. This is an extremely sad morning for the Hutchins family and the Stud." Typhoon Tracy won her final start in the Gr1 Sportingbet C.F.Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield in February 2011 (to take that race for the 2nd successive year) & retired with an overall record of 11 wins (also including 2010's Gr1 Inglis Queen Of The Turf Stakes over 1500m at Rosehill, Gr1 Futurity Stakes over 1600m at Caulfield & Gr1 C.F.Orr Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield, plus 2009's Gr1 Myer Classic over 1600m at Flemington, Gr1 Coolmore Classic over 1500m at Rosehill, Gr2 Tristarc Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield, Gr3 Schweppervescence Trophy over 1400m at Flemington & Listed Kevin Hayes Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield) & 5 placings (in 2011's Gr2 Australia Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley, plus 2010's Gr1 Myer Classic over 1600m at Flemington & Gr2 Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes over 1600m at Moonee Valley, as well as 2009's Gr2 Makybe Diva Stakes over 1600m at Flemington & Gr2 Liston Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield) from 20 starts for $2,438,600 earnings.
