Shamrocker Retired To Breeding Barn
Dual Gr1-winning 5YO mare Shamrocker (O'Reiily-Bohemian Blues, by Blues Traveller) has been retired from racing after "the mare struggled to get over a hindquarter issue", reports breednet.com.au. With her Autumn campaign abandoned due to the injury and still not showing enough improvement to allow her to be set for a Spring campaign, part owner Bruce Sherwin (of New Zealand's Raffles Farm) and fellow connections made the logical call to retire her. "It (the injury) hasn't been rectified by time and a long, slow build-up this preparation," commented Sherwin. "Jockey Glen Boss was not happy with her action behind in a barrier trial last week. Given the feedback from her jockey and her trainer, and her broodmare potential, a continuation of her racing career was considered unnecessary." With an overall record of 4 wins & 4 placings from 18 starts, Shamrocker finishes her racing career with an imposing CV that includes victories in the Gr1 VRC Australian Guineas and Gr1 ATC Australian Derby. She also ran seconds in both the Gr1 VRC Oaks and Gr1 ATC Oaks. Champion Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill-Piccadilly Circus, by Royal Academy) has been confirmed as her initial suitor this season. A NZ$65,000 2009 NZ Bloodstock Select Sale purchase from the draft of NZ's Valachi Downs, Shamrocker retires $1,975,888 earnings.
