Three-Pronged Juddmonte Cecil Attack
In the UK, trainer Henry Cecil has added additional firepower to his entries for next Wednesday's Gr1 Juddmonte International Stakes (1 mile, 2.5 furlongs) at York, reports racingpost.com. Cecil won the race last year with the Khalid Abdullah-owned Twice Over, and the trainer will start the 2011 victor alongside undefeated champion Frankel and stabe-mate pacemaker Bullet Train. Fittingly, owner Khalid Abdullah is the principal of Juddmonte Farms, sponsor of the race whose rich history is littered with the names of many champion racehorses, stretching all the way back to Roberto in 1972. Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to Khalid Abdullah, said, "Twice Over is the defending champion so it makes sense for him to run." Commenting on Frankel's 1st attempt beyond a mile, Grimthorpe was of the view the added distance would pose little problem, noting: "I don't think the step up to ten furlongs will be a concern. In his early days he used to get carried away with his phenomenal stride but under Sir Henry Cecil's guidance he has learnt to settle better and better."
