Murtagh Injury May Be Less Severe Than Feared

After receiving a kick to the face prior to the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh, jockey Johnny Murtagh's injury is not as bad as first thought. X-rays show that Murtagh has a hairline fracture of the zygoma (the bone under the eye) and his jaw is fine. Depending on what a specialist says overnight, he could be back riding at Dundalk on Sunday. Lottie Dod (Invincible Spirit – Sharapova, by Elusive Quality), the filly that struck the blow ran third in the Gr1 event with replacement hoop Pat Smullen.
