1st Shocking Foals Born

Friday, 17th August 2012

Melbourne Cup winner Shocking (Street Cry–Maria di Castiglia, by Danehill) has had his first foals arrive in New Zealand. A filly from Mae Ling (Keeper) arrived at Wentwood Grange on Tuesday morning, and on Thursday Rich Hill Stud welcomed a filly from Fairfield Flame (Oasis Dream). Rich Hill's John Thompson said, "Both fillies exhibit their sire's quality, strength and physical presence and we have a lot to look forward to over the next few months."  Bred at Ilala Farm, Shocking was trained by Mark Kavanagh to win 7 races (including the Gr1 Melbourne Cup & Gr1 Australian Cup) with 8 placings from 27 starts for $4,981,275 earnings. He covered 153 mares in his first year at Rich Hill Stud and his 2012 service fee remains at NZ$12,000+GST.
