First Foals Arrive For Star Witness

Friday, 17th August 2012

Australia's dual Gr1-winning sire Star Witness (Starcraft-Leone Chiara, by Lion Hunter) has sired his first foals. The Champion 2YO & 3YO Colt of his generation, Star Witness has been supported by many of the country's best breeders, and covered 147 mares in his first season at stud. Among them is Victorian-based Sean Buckley of Ultra Thoroughbreds, whose impeccably bred mare Lady Larissa (Belong To Me-Lady Capel, by Last Tycoon) produced a filly at Widden Stud earlier this week. She is the third foal for Lady Larissa, a half-sister to Gr1 winner Casino Prince and stakes-winners Lord of the Land, Metallurgical and Tagus. "She is a stunning filly that weighed in at 66 kg when she was born and is all quality," said Widden's Antony Thompson. "Star Witness has let down into a magnificent looking stallion as visitors will see at the upcoming open days, and the feedback on his foals has been nothing short of outstanding." A brilliant winner of the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes at two and VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes at three, Star Witness was the precocious brilliant juvenile that was able to train on. Multiple Gr1-placed (including the Gr1 King's Stand Stakes & Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot), Star Witness won the Gr1 MTC Blue Diamond Stakes as a juvenile before training on at three to capture the Gr1 VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes. His 2012 fee at Widden is $29,700.
