European Stables Target Cox Plate

Tuesday, 21st August 2012

Four of Europe's most prominent stables appear likely to send raiders for Melbourne Spring Carnival's weight-for-age Gr1 Cox Plate (2020m) at Moonee Valley, reports theage.com.au: "Racing Victoria's international recruitment consultant Leigh Jordon confirmed yesterday that the connections of the Marco Botti-trained Planteur had made the Cox Plate a priority target for the six-year-old, while William Haggas' Master Of Hounds, Alain De Royer Dupre's Reliable Man and the Luca Cumani-trained Afsare were also likely to aim at the October 27 race". Jordan claimed he was confident "we will have multiple [overseas] runners in this year's race". Meanwhile, it seems that trainer De Royer Dupre will push on with a third crack at the Melbourne Cup with 2010 winner Americain who finished down the field on the weekend in Deauville's Prix Kergolay when "needing the run".
