Frankel Wins UK Gr1 Juddmonte International Stakes
At York overnight in the UK, former Coolmore shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a Gr1 triumph when Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farm home-bred unbeaten 4YO entire Frankel (Galileo-Kind, by Danehill) cruised to a 7-length victory for trainer Sir Henry Cecil over fellow 4YO entire Farhh (Pivotal-Gonbarda, by Lando) & 5YO entire St Nicholas Abbey (Montjeu-Leaping Water, by Sure Blade) in the £725,000 Gr1 Juddmonte International Stakes (10.5 furlongs) for 3YOs+. Making a mockery of any doubts about his ability to stay beyond a mile, 13-for-13 winner Frankel now looks a serious possibility for the weight-for-age Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (12 furlongs), despite connections having suggested Champions Day at Ascot on October 20 would be his swansong. Following the victory, owner Khalid Abdullah remained cautious about changing the planned end-game for Frankel, noting: "I will discuss things with [trainer] Henry and it depends on what he wants to do. I didn't think a mile and a quarter was a problem, but further than that, I'm not sure." Bookmaker Paddy Power doesn't share that concern, installing Frankel a 3/1-on ($1.33) chance for the Arc, and he's shorter elsewhere.
