Future Melbourne Cup 'Smokey' At York

Friday, 24th August 2012

We-Have-Seen-The-Future: Assuming history is the best guide to the future, then here's a possible 'smokey' for the 2013 Melbourne Cup: 4YO entire Olympiad (Galileo-Caumshinaun, by Indian Ridge) won a race at York over 16.5 furlongs on Juddmonte International Stakes Day. Trained by Dermot Weld, Olympiad is still only lightly raced and is expected to back up in York's Ebor Handicap (14 furlongs) this weekend. Currently holding a Timeform rating of around 90, Olympiad is owned by Sir Robert Ogden and was a 650,000 guineas purchase from 2009's Tattersalls October Book 1. His dam Caumshinaun was Champion Older Mare in Ireland, and has already produced Gr1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner Nightime, a full-sister to Olympiad. He currently boasts 2 wins & 3 placings (2 as runner-up) from 6 starts, and appears to be getting better the further in trip he goes.
