2011 Nunthorpe Winner Sold As Broodmare

Monday, 27th August 2012

The winner of last year's Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes Margot Did (Exceed and Excel-Special Dancer, by Shareef Dancer) has been sold to Coolmore as a broodmare prospect. A top 2YO filly who won her first two outings before racking up four stakes-placings, Margot Did was better at three, winning two Listed races before her Gr1 victory against older horses for earnings of £263,182. She hasn't regained her 3YO form this season, and will most likely be retired by her new owners. Trainer Michael Bell told racingpost.com: "She was owned by two incredibly lucky owners who have had horses with me for a long time and she's given us two wonderful years and a lot of fun. She was the original rags-to-riches story. She was catalogued very early in the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze-up Sale which I think is one of the reasons why Richard [Frisby] was able to get her for us for only 10,000gns - we would have paid more. She was unlucky not to win a stakes race at two but we changed tactics with her last year, and that turned her from a bridesmaid into a bride."
