Aust-Bred Fastnet Rock Son To Stud In South Africa

Wednesday, 29th August 2012

Bush Hill Stud in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province will stand Australian-bred Fastnet Rock sire-son Curved Ball (Fastnet Rock-Curvaceous, by Zabeel) at Stud. Originally purchased by trainer Charles Laird on behalf of Markus Jooste for $200,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions National Winter Sale, Klawervlei Stud-owned Curved Ball won his second race start before backing up a month later to land the Gr2 Dingaans Handicap (1600m) at Turffontein in Johannesburg. Winning the Listed Sea Cottage Stakes at Turffontein next time out took his record to 3 wins from 4 starts. Finishing 4th at his following start in the Gr3 Tony Ruffel Stakes, Curved Ball suffered a tendon injury which kept him off the track for nearly 2 years, and an attempted comeback was aborted after 2 starts. He is standing his debut season for R8,000 ($920).
