Samaready Spring Campaign In Holding Pattern

Wednesday, 29th August 2012

Following a promising return when 4th in the Listed Quezette Stakes at Caulfield on August 18, Gr1 MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Samaready (More Than Ready-Samar, by Secret Savings) may miss the Gr3 McNeil Stakes at Caulfield this Saturday pending the "results of blood tests", reports ninemsn.com.au. Trainer Mick Price stated the 3YO filly "had 'gone on strike on Monday night, refusing to eat her evening meal." This led to Price having to "abandon a vital gallop planned for Tuesday morning." While Price suggests her lack of appetite may simply be due to "a low-grade infection" he is not prepared to take any risks until her blood picture is clear, saying, "We'll have a look at her blood picture and take it from there." Having to miss the McNeil Stakes puts her appearance in the Gr1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Randwick on September 15 in jeopardy, with Price observing, "I can't see it being a massive problem, but I wanted to give her one run before the Golden Rose and it wouldn't be practical to do that a week before the race." Samaready's goal of lining up in the Gr1 Thousand Guineas is still "anticipated".
