Gr1 Arc Fancy Euthanased After Freak Beach Accident

Thursday, 30th August 2012

In France, the Aga Khan's Gr1 French Oaks winner Valyra (Azamour-Valima, by Linamix) suffered a fatal injury from a freak accident on a Deauville beach, reports racingpost.com. Georges Rimaud, racing manager for the Aga Khan, lamented the tragedy: "She was cantering on the beach and sustained a fracture to her off hind femur. We tried to find a solution to save her but one couldn't be found. Fillies play on the beach and it could happen at any time. It's a big blow." Undefeated in her only 3 runs, "the daughter of Azamour had been due to race in the Qatar Prix Vermeille at Longchamp on September 16, which was to have been her final race before the Arc in October". Valyra was quoted at 10/1 in pre-post Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe markets.
