Igugu Heads De Kock's SAf Dubai Squadron
Champion South African trainer Mike De Kock's raid on the 2013 Dubai World Cup day riches is underway with a "high quality draft of formerly SA-based horses" set "to depart Mauritius after 90 days in quarantine, en route to De Kock's UK base and ultimately on to Dubai", reports sportingpost.co.za. Some of De Kock's motivation will be in avenging the narrow defeat of Lizard's Desire (Lizard Island-Annsfield, by Northfields) in the 2010 running of the Dubai World Cup. The team will be led by 4-time Gr1 winner and 2010-2011 South African Horse of the Year Igugu (Galileo-Zarinia, by Intikhab) who is on a winning streak , almost as dominant as another Galileo luminary in Frankel (Galileo-Kind, by Danehill). Another of De Kock's headline acts will be "unbeaten Equus champion two year old colt Soft Falling Rain [National Assembly-Gardener's Delight, by Giant's Causeway]" whose 4 starts included a dominant victory in the Gr1 SA Nursery on Champions Day. Dual Gr1 winner Shea Shea (National Emblem-Yankee Clipper, by Jallad), Gr3 winning miler Jet Legend (Jet Master-Majestic Guest, by Northern Guest), Australian-bred Gr1 runner-up Mushreq (Flying Spur-Alharir, by Jeune) and fellow Australian-bred Gr1 winning mare Amanee (Pivotal-Moon Is Up, by Woodman) will also represent De Kock. Mushreq was a $350,000 2010 Inglis Easter Yearling purchase by Mark Pilkington Bloodstock from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud.
