Murtagh Loses Stable Jockey Role For The Aga Khan

Friday, 31st August 2012

One of the world's most powerful owners, the Aga Khan, has terminated Irish stable jockey Johnny Murtagh's contract. According to skysports.com, Murtagh (who has held the position with trainer John Oxx since November 2010) issued the following statement: "I was informed yesterday afternoon that my contract to ride for His Highness the Aga Khan was being terminated with immediate effect. I would like to take this opportunity to thank His Highness and his staff at his studs in Ireland and France for the very successful years we have had together, and to sincerely wish them every success in the future." Murtagh has ridden many high class winners for the Aga Khan over more than a decade. Meanwhile, the Aga Khan's Irish stud farm manager, Pat Downes, commented: "I can confirm it is true. I don't have a whole lot more to say, other than there were differences between the parties and it was agreed that we would part."
