Oliver Outed 11 Meetings For Champagne Ride

Tuesday, 2nd October 2012

Meanwhile, Victoria's stewards suspended jockey Damien Oliver for 11 race meetings following his ride in Friday night's Gr3 Champagne Stakes at Moonee Valley (see above). According to theaustralian.com.au, "Stewards at Moonee Valley on Friday night charged Oliver under the provisions of Australian rule 137(d), being that he reduced the speed of his mount Elite Elle by taking hold when leading away from the rails near the 900m..." It is alleged that the knock-on effect "resulted in the pace of the race slackening, causing Saturn Rock having to be checked off the heels of Hoss Amor. Valid Contract and Saturn Rock were checked severely [and] a number of other runners were checked in consequence." Oliver will reportedly appeal the sentence at a hearing tomorrow.
