Cox Plate Momentum Continues To Build

Wednesday, 3rd October 2012

Meanwhile, intrigue continues to build in the southern hemisphere's weight-for-age heavyweight event, the Gr1 WS Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley run on the last Saturday of October. Last weekend's dazzling runs by Pierro (favourite) & stablemate More Joyous (joint 2nd favourite) have been complemented by the Moonee Valley gallop yesterday of equal 2nd favourite Ocean Park. Ridden by jockey Glen Boss whose current feature race form has his mounts on a cotton thread, Ocean Park went around "without a hitch". According to dailytelegraph.com.au, Boss spoke of Ocean Park as "a ticking time bomb", and was unwavering in his belief that his Cox Plate mount is the horse to beat: "I wouldn't swap Ocean Park for any other horse in the Cox Plate... He is flying. He has surprised everyone the way he has improved from his win in the Underwood Stakes." Ocean Park's next race start is on Saturday week in the Caulfield Stakes over 2000m.
